2024 International Uranium Film Festival Kick Off In Window Rock, AZ
Beginning a New Year an environmental health movement for the Navajo Nation is under way. Anna Rondon, Executive Director for NM Social Justice & Equity is partnering in organizing an international film festival.
This unique festival which is a USA/Canada tour will start in Window Rock, AZ March 7th & 8th, 2024. The films will highlight the nuclear issues, dangers, and consequences of uranium mining along with the devastation of the impacts as nuclear weapons of destruction. The IUFF will start in March in Window Rock, the capital of the Navajo (Diné) Nation. Further cities already included are Tucson (AZ), Austin (TX), Ashville (NC), Chicago (IL), Spokane (WA), Vancouver in Canada, Seattle (WA), Olympia (WA), Portland (OR), Salem (OR), Santa Barbara (CA) and Las Vegas (NV).
In previous years the festival has been hosted at the following locations worldwide: Rio, Wales, Berlin, and Quebec City. "The 2010 founded International Uranium Film Festival (IUFF) is dedicated to all nuclear issues and the whole nuclear fuel chain, from uranium mining to nuclear waste, from nuclear war to nuclear accidents. Over the past 12 years, Uranium Film Festivals have not only been held in Rio, but also in several other countries and cities such as Berlin, New Delhi, New York, Washington DC, Window Rock and Santa Fe."
Currently, NM Social Justice & Equity is seeking donations on behalf of the IUFF. The donations will help with overhead costs associated with planning an international awareness and educational engagement. New Mexico Foundation out of Santa Fe, NM is a fiscal sponsor for the event. Organizations or individuals who wish to donate will have the opportunity to have their organization's logo added to the program and posters developed for the event. The projected budget of $30K is being utilized for travel, food, educational material and facility use fees. Any monetary donations from third party organizations to assist can be done through a link on the IUFF official website or mailed in the form of a check with a memo for NM Social Justice & Equity Institute/IUFF.
